On the 26th of June, St Georges school pupils took part in their annual Sports Day. Three teams – Chaffeymore, Sandways and Queen Oak – all took part in the event. The children are placed into a team as soon as they join the school. Champions Chaffeymore were hoping to get their sixth win on the bounce after many years of dominating the competition. Rivals Sandways and Qeen Oak wanted to break their long run. It started with Gold base doing their traditional obstacle course which Chaffeymore won. One of the funniest races was when Silver Base had to crawl along the track.
It finished with the long and short relay. Sandways just won the short relay but Will ran like a bullet to win the long relay for Chaffymore...
On Monday the 26th of June our school had its annual sports day competition with the winning team being Sandways while Chaffeymore came second and Queen Oak came in third.
Gold Base’s tricky obstacle race:
Every year the Year 6’s create an obstacle course for the opening Sport’s Day race. This year we had to throw a beanbag in the cauldron, dribble a ball through a metal marker with a hockey stick , crawl under the parachute, run over Jacob’s ladder, finally jump over or crawl under the huddles.
In the first sprint from Rainbow Base, Sonny from sandways won the race giving Sandways a start in the lead. The first sprint from Blue Base was Lucas. In Silver Base their last race was won by Joe. In Gold Base the first race was won by Harriet .

On the 27/06/17 Gold Base made their very own bug hotels. They used a variety of nature including
- wood shavings
They didn’t use anything that was growing.
First Gold Base cut their bottles in half.
Then they all went on a walk in the grounds to fill up both bottle halves with natural items.
This is two of the children collecting nature.
Next they emptied their bottles onto their table and collected what they needed from the table.
After that bamboo and long sticks where sawed into reasonable lengths.
Then they filled the bottles with layers of thing that they had collected.
After they had finished some of Gold Base wrapped string around their bottle to hang them up.
Finally they stuck a peace of paper onto the bottle so they could tak...
In bug week Gold Base made tumble traps to capture some creepy criters. Here’s how we made them:
First we collected: a cup, a trowl, a piece of card and a out of date banana (at least it looked out of date).
We walked around the school grounds to find a sutible place for our trap. Then we dug a hole the same depth as the cup and placed the cup in it. Then we filled in any space around the cup with soil so bugs could get in.
Next we put in a small slice of banana to lure the bugs in and catch any who got in from getting hungry.
Then we found a short stick and used it to prop up the piece of card, this would stop any rain from getting in but still let in the bugs.
Then we waited for 24 hours. We repeated this with multiple cups...
